Strict Inequality

An inequality is a statement about the relative size or order of two objects.

The notation ( < )means that a is less than b and

The notation(>) means that a is greater than b.

The above relations are known as strict inequality, as these do not include situation a = b.

Example:

Although the following are inequalities, these are not strict inequalities, as these includes a=b situation also:

1. a=b means that a is less than or equal to b;

2. a=b means that a is greater than or equal to b;

3. a is not greater than b 4. a is not less than b.
